National Honors Society Induction – 04/23/14

39 Juniors were inducted into the MaST National Honor Society on April 23rd. These students were recognized for their committment to both their school and community. Each of the students have maintained a GPA above a 3.4 throughout their first 3 years of high school and have volunteered their time within the community.

High School 3D Class – 04/16/14

Rachael Benigno demonstrates her chair design in 3DS max for her Product Design I class. The final version of her chair design can be seen in the miniature chair prototype printed from the 3D printer.

For the chair project, students are guided through a series of exercises in the design process. Some of these exercises include pencil sketches involving human proportion studies, quick build models built in groups to encourage peer collaboration, and further model development and materials research in 3DS Max. When students complete their designs, the final product is tested in the 3D printer and documented in a student design portfolio.

Kindergarten Egg Drop – 04/16/14

Students created festive containers to hold their raw egg in order to participate in Kindergarten’s Annual Egg Drop Contest. Students were very excited to see how many eggs survived!

Hatching Chicks – 04/09/14

Third grade students enjoyed chick hatching as part of their Life Science Unit. After predicting which chick would hatch first, they anxiously awaited for the pecking to begin. Along with the Scientific Process, the students created memory booklets and documented by taking pictures. Students also learned how to care for the chicks. They were super hens and roosters while caring for the tender chicks!

Chemistry Club 2nd Grade – 04/08/14

To kick off our first day of Chemistry Club, our second graders made slime with the assistance of Mrs. Wolfenden, Ms. Steffney, Mrs. Davis and a few of our 12th graders.

First Grade iPad Program – 04/03/14

The MaST Community Charter School’s one-to-one iPad Program is moving into the Elementary hallway. Every first grade student was given an iPad on April 8th. Parents were invited to attend an information session prior to distribution on April 3rd. The parent information night included important information about our one-to-one program and teacher demonstrations on how the iPads will be used in the first grade classroom. iPads in the classroom allow for discovery, creativity, and collaboration, along with innovative approaches to learning. These devices will provide endless resources and engaging experiences to our first grade students on a daily basis.

April Engineer of the Month – 04/2014

Students were introduced to the field of Marine Engineering through a boat building activity. Using a water basin and aluminum foil, the students were able to take a first hand look at how a boat works. The students also discovered the properties of buoyancy through experimentation with shapes and weight.
