Smoothie Making Demo – March

During the month of  March, the Wellness Council in conjunction with the PE/Health department gave lessons to students in grades K-8.  The lessons included information on different fruits and vegetables and how they affect the body. Staff instructed the students on how to make a “Healthy Smoothie”. These smoothies contained strawberries, korean red ginseng, blueberries, bananas, apples and spinach. The students could not believe that they were drinking spinach!

Classes also created a JAM (Just a Minute) exercise video. These videos will be used for the students to get daily exercise during school hours. Teachers may do this in the morning, after lunch or when recess is canceled due to inclement weather.

Engineer of the Month – March

The Engineer of the Month activity for the month of March was to make catapults.  Students reviewed the parts of a catapult such as the arm, base, basket and payload.  They learned that their catapult would use tension to launch projectiles. They also learned the difference between accuracy and precision. Each student was able to construct and use their own catapult to launch marshmallow projectiles.

“If She Builds It” Robotics Program

High School robotics students worked with 4th grade students in the “If She Builds It” program. The high school students and fourth graders worked together to build and program robots. On March 14th the students participated in presentations demonstrating their knowledge. The main objective of “If She Builds It” is to encourage girls to explore robotics and other forms of engineering and computer science.

3rd Grade Achievement Celebration – 03/14/14

The third grade received an Achievement Celebration for having over 90% Proficiency or Advanced on the latest Reading and Math 4-Sight Tests.

3rd Grade Plant Growth – 3/04/14

Parents joined third grade classes in the planting of the Brassica seeds. Third grade is now studying a unit on Plant Growth and Development. Students are excited and anxious to observe the germination process of these Wisconsin Fast Plants.
