Astronomy (Grades 7-12)

- This high school and middle school club develop activities around the use of our 20″ diameter fully robotic telescope, the largest in the Delaware Valley. Projects include asteroid impact simulation, making telescopes from mirror to completion, capturing stereo images of meteor showers. All projects promote higher-level math skills and critical thinking through to the use of appropriate tools. Upper HS members train new members in challenging new ideas. These ideas are used to conduct workshops and demonstrations for our school families and others.

Upper School Guitar Ensemble (Grades 7-12)

- The MaST “Upper School Guitar Ensemble” consists of students in grades seven through twelve who enjoy studying and playing classical guitar. Through participating in this ensemble, students develop a sense of self, musicianship, responsibility and of participating as a team member. The “Upper School Guitar Ensemble” performs in both winter and spring school concerts, as well as out within the MaST community. This ensemble has performed at local malls, local senior homes and has attended music classes at the Kimmel Center.

- Students will have the opportunity to perform Rock, Funk, and Pop tunes during half time at all home High School Basketball games.
Upper School Choir (Grades 7-12)

- The MaST “Upper School Choir” consists of students in grades seven through twelve who enjoy singing. Through participating in this choir, students develop a sense of self, musicianship, responsibility and of participating as a team member. The “Upper School Choir” performs in both winter and spring school concerts, as well as out within the MaST community. This choir has performed at local malls, senior homes, and public sports games. The choir has also entered the B101 holiday song contest, has attended music classes at the Kimmel Center, has participated in the city wide “Music in Charter Schools Conference,” has performed at special school wide events and has competed at local amusement park competitions.

- HS Basketball is an opportunity for students to participate in practicing with teammates, traveling to play games, take pride in behavior and academics and participate in league meetings.

- The MaST girls’ volleyball team just finished its second year of competition. The season runs from August to October and is open to any girl in 9th-12th grade. There is a Junior Varsity and Varsity team; both of which compete in the Bicentennial League. The team is a competitive sport focused on developing skills and team concepts. - The Varsity Baseball team competes in the Bicentennial Athletic League against some of the best teams in the state. Practices and home games are held at Boyle Playground at the intersection of Kelvin and Napier streets.

- High school softball is coming off of the best season in the history of the school with 12 wins and 8 loses. The girls have learned to work together as a team to achieve one single goal. We teach, that through dedication and hard work we can be successful and strive for greatness. Coach Andrews and Coach Stengel are looking forward to another great season this year and hope to qualify for the District 12 playoffs. See everyone in the spring.

- High School Girls’ Soccer is a great way for our students to excel outside of the classroom. By playing soccer, the players will be getting into shape, learning about sportsmanship, and develop camaraderie amongst teammates.

- Our team is made up of 9th – 12th grade girls that cheers for both the Boys’ and Girls’ High School Basketball home games. They also participate in school functions, such as pep rallies. We attend local High School Cheerleading competitions.

Dance Team

- The Dance Team is a relatively new club offered to High School students at MaST that have an interest in dance and/or choreography. No dance background is required to join; however, the club will greatly benefit from individuals with dance background. The Dance Team allows individuals to express themselves through dance from various different cultures. We have included ballet, hip-hop, Latin dance, Indian dance and many others within the choreography. The team is generally a student run club in which the students generate most of the choreography and then teach other members the steps.

Student Council

- High School Student Council and the homeroom representatives are an extension of the student body. They represent MAST students at school functions and do charitable work on behalf of the high school students. They organize food drives, collect funds for various organizations, promote and organize and Annual Winter Formal and End of the Year Awards Ceremony. The High School representatives are able to communicate with the homerooms. The Student Council members are liaisons between administration and students.

- This “Before School” high school club begins with a student team manager and three section managers. All upper class members mentor/train new members. This club provides video services to the entire school primarily in the form of morning announcements. Membership requires students to take responsibility for a specific job. Additional services are performed in the range of 80 hours of school events and performances per year including recording, editing, publishing and distributing various products.

National Honor Society

- “The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school seniors. More than just an honor roll, NHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Citizenship, and Character. These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since their beginnings in 1921. Today, it is estimated that more than one million students participate in activities of the NHS. Chapters are found in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, many U.S. Territories, and Canada. Chapter membership not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.”

- Maast is Mast’s Asian club named after the Hindu word for fun. As a group of diverse high school students from India, China, Pakistan as well as America the club combines their knowledge of the Asian culture to enhance each other’s appreciation for the school’s diversity. Some of the activities include fundraisers for those in need living in various parts of Asia, dancing in the talent show, educating the elementary students during the multicultural fair.

- The Environmental Club works on projects related to increasing school awareness about preserving the environment. Activities include fundraisers, trips to recycling facilities, recycling trips to Phillies games, re-using Capri-Sun juice pouches, and making student Earth Day gifts.

- The Drama Club is designed for children that take pleasure in performing. It teaches them to learn their own creativity in the arts. Performing on a stage gives children the confidence to showcase what they can do.

- The purpose of the Newspaper Club is to compose an up-to-date report of all school events for students, parents, and community members to read. The goal is to create an awareness of all of the events occurring at the school and the opportunities available. The club members work hard to research and report on the happenings at MaST to keep everyone aware of how much the school has to offer.

- Bible Club is a student lead club that meets for reading, learning about, and discussing passages from the Bible. Students learn to think critically about what they read and encourage one another in their beliefs.

- The MaST outdoor classroom is an exciting new area that offers unique opportunities for learning and fun. The Garden Club explores the environment in many interesting ways. It provides a learning experience for cross-curricular studies. By joining, the Garden Club students will engage in activities that help them grow cognitively, socially, emotionally and of course physically.
